Early years

A skilled multi-instrumentalist, singer and composer with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Melbourne's Conservatorium of Music, McGuire's conducting career began in Melbourne, Australia, honing her skills with orchestras, choirs, opera and musical theatre under the tutelage of maestro Robert Rosen at the Victorian College of the Arts. In the mid-1990s, as the recipient of a Rotary International Ambassadorial Fellowship, she completed a Master of Music degree with Distinction at the University of Surrey (UK), during which time she met Australian conductor Simone Young at Covent Garden who encouraged McGuire to head to America. McGuire was then accepted to the Doctor of Musical Arts program at the University of Colorado at Boulder (USA), where she worked with maestro Robert Spillman at CU Opera and maestro Theodore Kuchar at the the University Orchestra and the Boulder Philharmonic.
